Program Overview & Objectives
The Bachelor of Information Technology (Computer Games) provides you with the necessary skills, knowledge and values to be successful in a variety of computing areas, with a specialisation in computer games development. To succeed in the dynamic field of computer games, you require a strong theoretical basis and practical skills in games design and development, both of which you will receive within this program. In particular, you will graduate with very strong programming and multimedia design skills.
As a graduate of the Bachelor of Information Technology (Computer Games), you should be able to:
- demonstrate a conceptual and practical understanding of computing technologies and their application to a diverse range of industrial and commercial problems;
- demonstrate a sound conceptual framework in computing technologies in order to apply and integrate new developments in these technologies;
- demonstrate a high level of industrial relevance and practical application of computing knowledge and techniques;
- move into postgraduate study in computing or mathematics, having attained a suitable basis for this;
- demonstrate a professional approach to computing including an appreciation of the ethics and social implications of the use of computers in society; and
- communicate and cooperate with others and work within and contribute to a team environment.

Possible career paths include games development, games design, games testing and quality assurance, interactive entertainment, 2D and 3D artistry, project management, consultancy, software engineering, systems analysis, web development, programming, etc.
Program Structure
The course consists of 24 units and is 3 years full-time. It is based on a number of core units, which cover the fundamentals of computing, such as operating systems, programming, multimedia, databases, software engineering and algorithms. One third of the course is electives specialised in games technologies and advanced multimedia.
