Admission Requirement

General Admission Requirements

Eligibility

To be eligible for entry to the University of Ballarat applicants must be able to meet the University of Ballarat general academic admission requirements (including in some cases specific subject prerequisites for particular courses) and demonstrate proficiency in the English language.

Academic Entry Requirements

Undergraduate Degree Courses

Students are assessed competitively on the basis for Australian Year 12, or overseas equivalent, school qualifications.

Some courses require additional procedures such as interviews and/or auditions.

Students with post-school qualifications (e.g. Diplomas, Advanced Diplomas) may be considered for admission with advanced standing or credit (recognition of prior learning). The amount of advanced standing will not normally exceed more than half of the University of Ballarat course concerned.

Postgraduate Courses

Entry requirements vary from course to course, but generally require completion of a first degree from a recognised university with specified minimum grades (or marks) in relevant subjects. A period of work experience, following graduation, may also be required for some professional courses.

English Language Proficiency

In addition, for all courses, students must have obtained the following minimum level of English language proficiency to be admitted.

Undergraduate and Postgraduate (Coursework)

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) - Overall band score of 6.0, with no individual sub-score less than 5.5

TOEFL (Teaching of English as a Foreign Language) - A score of 550, including the Test of Written English (TWE), or A score of 213 in the Computer based Test, and the essay rating.

Recognition of Prior Learning

A student may apply for academic exemption on account of work already completed in a recognised university (or equivalent).

Full details of the subjects previously studied [including detailed syllabuses, a descriptions of the assessment and grading system and an official original academic transcript (or certified copy) detailing performance in the subject(s) concerned] must be provided, preferably in advance of coming to Australia or, at the latest, at the time of enrolment, in order for exemptions to be decided.

A student who receives exemption for any unit will receive a full refund (or credit towards another unit) of fees for the unit concerned.
