After you apply

Cut-off dates

Due to the need to undergo pre-visa screening and apply for a student visa, International students must stick to strict cut-off dates. We recommend you apply as early as possible to allow enough time for processing.

Please note: many students will package an English and Academic Preparation (EAP) program with their main program. If you will be studying an EAP program, cut-off dates will be based on the orientation date of your EAP program, not the standard semester dates.

Pre-visa screening - Simplified Student Visa Framework

Under the Department of Home Affairs' Simplified Student Visa Framework (SSVF), education providers are required to ensure that all prospective international students are genuine students who can meet genuine temporary entrant requirements and have the financial capacity to support their study in Australia.

The University requires each international applicant to submit a detailed personal statement of study purpose with their application.

International applicants must provide documentary evidence of financial capacity. Students must have genuine access to either:

  • sufficient funds to cover themselves and any accompanying family members for their first 12 months in Australia; OR
  • sufficient ongoing income to cover these costs.

You will need to demonstrate that you have sufficient funds or income to cover both your tuition fees and living costs.

Accepting your offer - How to accept your offer

Applicants should refer back to the offer letter email which they would have receive from Federation University for information on accepting the offer, and other arrangements to consider. You must meet all conditions on your offer before you can accept it. You must accept your letter of offer online via the StudyLink Student Application Portal before, or at the same time, that you make your fee deposit payment.

We are beyond excited to welcome you to our university and look forward to meeting you here. Once you receive your COE with us, we will be sending you a lot of information about the support and activities on offer for you here when you arrive.

Deferring, suspending or cancelling enrolment

New students:

Sometimes, new students choose to defer the start of their program for a number of reasons. Students may reserve their place in a program for a period agreed with IIBIT. However, the normal maximum period of deferment is one year. Students receiving an offer of a place in a program who wish to defer the start of their program must write to the IIBIT Admissions (Admissions Office) outlining the reason for their deferment request? Deferment of the start of a program after a student arrives in Australia is subject to Australian immigration rules.

Existing Students

Students may apply for deferment of their studies under compassionate or compelling circumstances.

Compassionate or compelling circumstances are generally those beyond the control of the student and which impact on the student's program progress or well-being.
