What is Smart and Skilled?

If you live or work in NSW, you may be eligible for Smart and Skilled funding. We can provide you with information regarding eligibility.

Smart and Skilled is a reform of the NSW Vocational Education and Training (VET) system. It’s helping people in NSW get the skills they need to find a job and advance their careers.

Under Smart and Skilled the NSW Government contributes to the cost of each course with the student paying the balance. You can determine your eligibility for Smart and Skilled training in the Eligibility Checker –https://smartandskilled.nsw.gov.au/are-you-eligible

Am I eligible for Smart and Skilled subsidised training?

To be eligible for Smart and Skilled funding at the time of enrolment in an approved qualification you must:

• Live or Work in NSW (determined by postcode of the usual place of residence or place or work);

AND BE:

• An Australian citizen; or
• An Australian permanent resident; or
• A humanitarian visa holder; or
• A New Zealand citizen;

AND:

• Are aged 15 years or older; and
• Are no longer in secondary education; and
• Comply with any relevant program eligibility criteria outlined

Students with disabilities, students who receive Australian Government benefits or allowances, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students may qualify for additional fee exemptions or concessions.

How to apply for Smart and Skilled funding?

National Training Solutions can assist you with the enrolment and the application process.

To apply for NSW Smart and Skilled subsidies with National Training Solutions simply contact us and we can send you the forms required along with ‘how to complete information.

Some information you will need prior to completing the application forms is a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Everyone undertaking nationally recognised vocational training in Australia needs a USI. It enables students to access their training records and results. If you don’t have one you can get one easily by going to the www.usi.gov.au

You’ll also need to provide proof of identity/residency documents such as your passport, citizenship certificate, driver's license or Medicare card as well as complete a form to consent to the use and disclosure of personal information.

WorkReady

What is WorkReady?

WorkReady is a South Australian government initiative that brings together funding for training, employment and skills activities. WorkReady is about targeting training and employment opportunities to the needs of people, strategic industries and regions. Individuals need to meet course entry requirements and verify their eligibility for enrolment before being enrolled in a government subsidised training place.

You may be eligible for a government subsidised training place if you either live or work in South Australia, and you are:

• an Australian or
• New Zealand citizen, or a permanent Australian resident, or
• the holder of an eligible visa (Visa types as below).

You also need to be one of the following:

• aged 16 years or over and not enrolled at school, or
• aged 16 years or over, enrolled in school an d undertaking training through the Training Guarantee for SACE Students (TGSS), or
• undertaking training through a training contract as an apprentice or trainee in identified courses.

Eligible individuals may be able to access:

• one foundation skills course (if you are assessed to need it)
• up to five bridging units at every qualification level (if assessed to need them)
• unlimited priority courses.

Concession Eligibility

Students who hold any of the following concession cards at the time of their enrolment may be eligible to for a concession fee:

• Hold a health care card
• Hold a pensioner concession card
• Hold a pensioner concession card issued by the Department of Veteran Affairs
• Are a prison inmate, a detainee, on remand, held in a South Australian institution in connection with the commission of an offence, or a child in a South Australian detention centre older than 16 years.

Please note: Proof of eligibility for concession must be demonstrated at the time of enrolment. If the concession is valid for the full enrolment period, then all eligible units commenced within that period attract the concession rate. If the concession is valid for part of the enrolment period, then only eligible units commenced prior to the expiry of the concession attract the concession rate.
